Letter: Students should be ashamedIt was less than a month ago when the Grand Forks Red River student section was in hot water after unsportsmanlike conduct at a January hockey game against Fargo North (refer to Hannalee Volk’s Feb. 5 letter), and yet they were back to their bad habits once again Feb. 22 in a hockey game versus Davies High. Not only did the section cross the line of being unsportsmanlike, they crossed the line of humane societal activity by representing a group, whether intentionally or not, that is notorious for their racial hatred and ignorance.
To me, it is one thing for three unapt students to make the dastardly decision to wear masks of white representing the KKK, it is also a fault of those students surrounding them who didn’t speak up and shut down the inappropriate act. Even though only a small percent of the Red River student population was present at the game, the heinous act committed by a few thoughtless students set forth a pitiable reputation for the entire high school, perhaps even the whole school district.
The Red River student section should be ashamed.
