Minneapolis hosts 'spay-a-thon' for pets

MINNEAPOLIS — The city of Minneapolis is holding a "spay-a-thon" Tuesday on World Spay Day.

The goal is to promote spaying and neutering as a humane and effective way to reduce the number of animals that are euthanized in shelters each year.

Minneapolis is working with the Minnesota Spay Neuter Assistance Program to offer free and low-cost spay and neuter surgeries for Minneapolis pets.

Free surgeries are available to pet owners in several northside neighborhoods. Low-cost surgeries are available to residents who qualify from across Minneapolis.

Veterinarians will be performing 100 surgeries Tuesday at Minneapolis Animal Care and Control. Animal drop-offs begin at 8 a.m.
