Spare Key expands to help ND families

MINNEAPOLIS – Spare Key, a Minnesota-based nonprofit, has expanded into North Dakota and is now recruiting social workers to assist in referring qualified family applicants.

The Spare Key Mortgage Grant Program assists families with a seriously ill or critically injured child in the hospital with mortgage payments.

The program requires that applicants have a dependent child (18 years of age or younger) who has been hospitalized for 14 or more days in the past 90 days. Applicants must also be a North Dakota homeowner, be current on their mortgage payments and must demonstrate a significant reduction of income as a result of their child’s hospitalization or demonstrate the child’s medical care has resulted in a significant increase in expenses.

If the application is approved, the mortgage grant payment is made directly to the mortgage lender.

For social workers, hospitals or others in the health care industry who want to learn more about the program, contact Nikki Lignell at Nikki@sparekey.org, (952) 406-8872 or visit www.sparekey.org.
