ND snowmobile fatality victim identified

MICHIGAN, N.D - Authorities have identified the Michigan man killed Sunday in a snowmobile accident in Nelson County.

Michael Barney, 59, was operating an Arctic Cat snowmobile westbound on Horseshoe Lake at about 5:40 p.m. Sunday when the snowmobile made contact with a slight grade raise adjacent to Nelson County Road 35, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The driver cleared the road and came to rest on the west side of Horseshoe Lake. He sustained injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the Nelson County Hospital in McVille.

The Michigan Fire Department, Michigan Area Ambulance and the Nelson County Sheriff's Department also responded to the crash.
