Tuesday Tip: Use vinegar to spot-clean carpet

Each Tuesday we offer up a quick tip on anything from money-saving tricks to household how-tos.

FARGO – With two kids, two cats and a dog, I have to spot-clean my carpet frequently.

But I also don’t want my kids playing on a carpet full of chemicals.

A few years ago, my husband’s grandmother gave me a useful cleaning tip that solves both problems.

Cleaning with vinegar removes stains (even cat vomit and chocolate milk) as effectively as any commercial cleaner I’ve tried.

I usually pour a small amount of vinegar onto a wet microfiber rag and rub at the stain until it disappears.

It even works on my cream-colored ottoman, which seems to be a magnet for spills.

Using vinegar to clean does leave the faint scent of vinegar behind, but it seems to disappear quickly.
