Letter: Gun ownership is not nonsense

It is not nonsense about legal gun ownership.

When they wrote the Constitution/Second Amendment, citizens had an assault weapon – it was known as the musket. Most citizens then were better armed than the military.

The hunting rifle of today – the one everyone is calling an assault rifle – is not an assault rifle. Actually a deer rifle does more damage – it makes a larger hole, making it easier to kill with.

History repeats itself because people do not learn. During World War II, German citizens didn’t have guns because Hitler had them confiscated.

Current gun laws need to be enforced, along with severe penalties for first offenders with guns – especially in Washington, D.C., Detroit, Los Angeles, Baltimore, Chicago – big cities where gang violence, drugs and illegal guns are rampant.

Society needs to deal realistically with the mentally ill. Group homes are not a cover-all for mental problems, nor is “home care” safe for people who have dangerously serious mental health issues.

It is not the gun that picks itself up to shoot. Go after the illegal gun carriers and those with serious mental issues, not the legal, knowledgeable, licensed – already regulated – gun owner/hunter.

Do you ever wonder why conservatives are called “right” and liberals are called “left”?

The Bible says:

“The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left.” Ecclesiastes 10:2 (NIV)

That confirms it.
