Letter: First-hand report of hockey game

I would like to respond to Hannalee Volk’s letter to the editor on Feb. 4 regarding student behavior at a Fargo North vs. Red River boys hockey game played in Grand Forks. I attended the game.

I was taking pictures of the Fargo North goalie for his mother. I graduated from Fargo South High School with this parent. I was near the Red River students for most of the game. An assistant principal and the activities director were present, and had control over the students. When the students used the name of one of the Fargo North players in a cheer, they were immediately asked to stop, and they did. I didn’t observe the students do anything that I haven’t heard or seen at any other hockey game I’ve attended.

One thing out of the ordinary was an adult, standing directly behind the students. She was using her phone to videotape the students, and engaged in verbal banter with them. I contend the biggest issue in that game was an adult behaving poorly.
