South Border's Bosch enters state undefeated for a third time

WISHEK, N.D. – The date Feb. 19, 2011, holds a special meaning for South Border senior wrestler Blake Bosch.

That was the last time the Mustangs standout lost a match, and it happened to come in the North Dakota Class B state 119-pound championship.

Cody Neumiller of New Salem scored a 7-4 decision over Bosch, who had entered the tournament undefeated.

Fast forward two years and Bosch is entering his final state tournament with an undefeated record for a third straight year. He was a perfect 44-0 last season and won the state 126-pound championship.

“It has been going very well,” Bosch said of his career of late. “Losing in the finals two years ago just drives a guy crazy. I worked hard in the weight room and the wrestling room every chance I got. I just hate losing.”

Bosch (37-0) is the top seed in the 126-pound weight class. The Class B state individual tournament begins 10 a.m. today at the Fargodome.

“He is a kid we are going to miss,” South Border co-head coach Dwight Schilling said. “He is a big motivator for every other wrestler on the team. He is one of those kids you don’t see come through a program very often.”

Bosch, who also won a state title at 103 pounds as a ninth grader, opens with a match against Cullen Seeger of New Salem-Almont.

“I just got to stay focused,” said Bosch, who is undecided on where he will wrestle in college. “I want it bad and I got to finish it out.”

South Border – a co-op of Ashley and Wishek – also is competing in the team dual tournament which begins today following the 10 a.m. Class A team dual quarterfinal matches.

The Mustangs have won the last two team dual championships and open against Region 4, No. 2-seeded Beulah-Hazen.
