Celebration of Women and Their Music casts a wide net

FARGO – In its 16-year-run, the annual Celebration of Women and Their Music has grown from a regional showcase of female artists to casting a nation-wide net.

Saturday night’s show at the Fargo Theatre, mixes the home-grown (Amanda Standalone & the Pastry Shop Girls, Calli Adamson & Little Winter) with regional acts (Minneapolis’ Chants & Seas) returning favorites (Bismarck’s Kris Kitko and Minneapolis’ Chastity Brown) with fresh, new faces (Fargo’s Samantha & Zoe Adank).

Like the most recent productions, this year’s festivities stretch beyond the Fargo stage and beyond Saturday night.

The five-day-long celebration kicked off Wednesday night with Amanda Standalone & the Pastry Shop Girls and Fancy That playing the Red Raven.

The beat goes on tonight at the Listening Room at the Spirit Room, with intimate sets by one Saturday’s featured guests, the Los Angeles-based Raining Jane from 7 to 8:30 p.m. with a $10 cover for this all-ages gig.

After that, the scene shifts over to the HoDo Lounge for a returning set by Haley E. and the Rydells. Music starts at 8:30 p.m. with no cover for this ID-only show.

Friday night Fargo native Haley Rydell takes the stage at the Listening Room, pairing with Angie Stevens in I’m With Her. The all-ages show goes from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with a $10 cover. After which the focus shifts again to the HoDo Lounge for a set by Chants & Seas from 8:30 to 11 p.m. for those 21-and-older.

Even Saturday’s main event is followed up with another after-show, this time featuring I’m with Her and Chastity Brown playing ID-only sets at the Aquarium. Music starts at 10:30 p.m. with a $5 cover.

The weekend comes to a close Sunday night with a third set from Raining Jane, this time at Beckwith Recital Hall at North Dakota State University. The music starts at 7 p.m. with Hannah Christianson and Rosie Sauvageau opening. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door for this all-ages event.
