Letter: Red River fan behavior can and will improve

In response to the letter “Red River fans extremely rude” that was published on Feb. 4:

Red River High School had multiple supervisors in attendance at the hockey game between Red River and Fargo North that took place in Grand Forks on Jan. 31. The game supervisors observed one violation to Grand Forks Public Schools extracurricular conduct policies, which was immediately addressed by school officials. No other violations to either the Grand Forks Public Schools’ or EDC’s extracurricular conduct policies were reported.

Administration from Grand Forks Public Schools has spoken to administration from Fargo North regarding behavior exhibited by both sides during the game. We believe that all fans’ sportsmanship can and will improve as we move toward the postseason.

Grand Forks Public Schools has detailed expectations for our students at all extracurricular events, which includes assisting in maintaining a safe and respectful environment. Good sportsmanship is essential, and we expect our students to abide by these expectations at all times.

Arason is principal, Red River (Grand Forks) High School; Olson is activities director.
