Letter: Dream house not nightmare for usI’d like to respond to the article titled “Selling the dream” that was printed in the Jan. 11 Forum.
I was the winner of the Giveaway of a Lifetime contest. The whole experience has been a very emotional journey for my family and for me personally. The drawing for the Giveaway of a Lifetime contest occurred less than two months after the devastating loss of my sister, Mary, from pancreatic cancer. She was given her diagnosis on St Patrick’s Day of 2011 and was not expected to survive to celebrate Easter with us. Remarkably, Mary fought on and not only celebrated Easter in 2011 but also in 2012. She had an indomitable spirit, and in an unexplainable way, I saw her fingerprints in my selection as the recipient of the dream house.
Next, Robert Leslie of Designer Homes, all the people on his team and all the participating sponsors have treated me and my family like royalty. We certainly did not deserve this unbelievably wonderful gift but are eternally grateful for it.
Also, Art and I have been approached by dozens of well-wishers, some being acquaintances and some being total strangers. The vast majority have given us positive feedback and have been happy for us. One passerby even stopped by the house to tell me how proud she was of this whole community over this project. I couldn’t agree with her more wholeheartedly.
In conclusion, the Giveaway of a Lifetime was in no way, shape or form a “financial nightmare.” It was perfectly named, as it has changed our lives and the lives of those around us forever.
