Letter: Get modern with petition process

Note to North Dakota Secretary of State Al Jaeger: We live in the 21st century. Why are we collecting signatures on paper petitions when we could do it all electronically? Do you like counting and verifying signatures?

North Dakota has a great website. Why not put each initiated measure on the state’s own Web page and have people sign up that way? To verify, have each signer use either the last four digits of their North Dakota license or Social Security number. Workers gathering signatures can use a tablet or iPad. This would eliminate any fraud, and you’d have a daily proven count.

If you want to pass a law, pass one outlawing paper petitions.
