List of 2013 Bison football recruits

North Dakota State announced Wednesday the signing of 21 high school football players. Here is a quick look at the 2013 recruiting class:

North Dakota

Jeff Illies, 6-3, 195 pounds, tight end, Wyndmere-Lidgerwood

Three-time all-stater who played on 2010 state 9-man championship team and four region championship teams

Jesse Kubik, 6-6, 290 pounds, offensive tackle, Dickinson Trinity

All-stater and four-year starter who earned co-most valuable offensive lineman at NDSU football camp


Zack Ziemer, 6-4, 285 pounds, offensive tackle, Lakeville

All-stater who led Lakeville North to Class 6A runnerup finish in 2012 and Class 5A section title in 2011

Chase Morlock, 6-0, 195 pounds, running back, Moorhead

All-stater and Mr. Football finalist who set school single-season records with 31 TDs and 2,226 yards rushing

Justin Axelson, 6-4, 200 pounds, tight end, Spring Lake Park

Three-year starter who helped team to 23-5 record. His father was an All-American pitcher at Moorhead State


Grant Morgan, 6-4, 265 pounds, defensive tackle, Oshkosh

Three-year starter at Oshkosh North High School, where he set a school record 48 seconds in the 300-yard shuttle run.

Alex Hahn, 6-1, 215 pounds, linebacker, Oak Creek

All-stater who as a powerlifter, qualified for the Worlds competition, setting a national deadlift record at 600 pounds.

Brad Ambrosius, 6-5, 235 pounds, defensive end, DePere

All-stater for two state championship teams at West DePere High School. Had 191 tackles during his career.

Nick Jacobsen, 6-3, 275 pounds, defensive tackle, Prescott

All-stater with 86 tackles from the same school as former Bison safety and NFL player Nick Schommer.

Nathan Tanguay, 6-4, 255 pounds, defensive tackle, Mukwonago

All-stater with a school-record 22 tackles for a loss and 8.5 sacks. Named conference’s defensive player of the year.

James Gates, 6-0, 200 pounds, linebacker, Menomonie

Two-time all-stater who set school record with 30 sacks, helping team to an 18-4 record his last two seasons.

South Dakota

Jarrod Tuszka, 6-3, 205 pounds, defensive end, Warner

Three-time all-stater whose father had NFL tryouts with Baltimore, Green Bay and Minnesota in early 1980s.

Austin Kuhnert, 6-4, 300 pounds, offensive guard, Sioux Falls

All-stater at Washington High School who was named the most outstanding lineman at 2012 state title game.


Tyler Wrice, 5-7, 160 pounds, wide receiver, Papillion

Three-year starter at LaVista High School who produced more than 1,000 all-purpose yards the last two seasons.

Nick DeLuca, 6-3, 240 pounds, linebacker, Omaha

Two-time all-stater who led Millard North High School to state championship with 103 tackles and 9.5 sacks.


Matt Plank, 6-2, 215 pounds, linebacker, Gardner

Two-time all-stater who had 104 tackles to help lead Edgerton High School to state playoff quarterfinals.


Cole Davis, 6-3, 185 pounds, quarterback, Kearney

Passed for a school-record 347 yards in one game, had 3,144 career passing yards with 34 touchdowns.


Pierre Gee-Tucker, 6-0, 205 pounds, linebacker, Belleville

All stater for Belleville West High School, where he was named the Metro East Player of the year.


Connor Wentz, 6-3, 240 pounds, tight end, Dunnellon.

Three-year starter and standout baseball player who is a cousin to NDSU sophomore quarterback Carson Wentz

Tre Dempsey, 5-11, 165 pounds, defensive back, Lakeland

Three-year starter who had 70 tackles, 10 pass breakups and 4 interceptions to help Lakeland to a 9-2 record.

Chris Board, 6-0, 200 pounds, defensive back, Lakeland

Second-team all-stater for Timber Creek High School who had 109 tackles and 4 interceptions his senior season.
