Police: Dispute over woman led to parking lot fight

FARGO – Police say a baseball bat was reportedly used during a fight involving multiple people in a parking lot outside a Fargo motel early Tuesday.

No arrests had been made as of Tuesday afternoon, and the incident remained under investigation, Lt. Joel Vettel said.

Officers were called at 3:16 a.m. to the 3400 block of 14th Avenue South for a disturbance in the parking lot outside the Days Inn, Sgt. Jared Crane said.

Vettel said two men who had a dispute over a woman reportedly agreed to meet in the parking lot to settle the dispute.

One man was driven by a friend to Essentia Hospital for treatment of non-serious injuries including bumps and bruises and possibly a small cut, Crane said.

Police were still trying to determine the number of people involved, but Crane said it was “a couple vehicles full of guys.”

Police found one of the vehicles in Fargo and the other in the Dilworth area and questioned most of those involved but made no arrests.

The man taken to the hospital told police he was hit with a baseball bat during the fight, Crane said. Police also were told someone was threatened with a handgun during the fight, but they were unable to confirm that, he said.
