Redshirt freshmen Brantley and Amaechi dismissed from team

FARGO – Safety Marcus Brantley and defensive end Chuks Amaechi, two promising North Dakota State redshirt freshmen recruits from the state of Arizona, have been dismissed for violation of team rules, said head coach Craig Bohl.

Both were part of the 2012 recruiting class and did not play last year.

Brantley was charged with a Class B misdemeanor of minor in possession, consumption, under the influence or purchase of alcohol last weekend in Fargo Municipal Court. It’s doubtful that was a sole reason for leaving the team since minor charges normally have carried a one-game suspension under Bohl in his 10 years as the head coach.

Brantley was an all-state safety for Red Mountain High School in Mesa and Amaechi was a first team all-state selection for Westview High in Avondale.

Their departures means four players from last year’s recruiting class have left the team. Offensive lineman Sam Hahn has transferred to Nebraska and linebacker Jacob Davis left the team after the fall semester.
