Man assaulted by multiple people outside Fargo motel

FARGO – Police say a baseball bat was reportedly used when a man was assaulted by a group of people outside a Fargo motel early today.

The victim was driven by a friend to Essentia Hospital for treatment of non-serious injuries including bumps and bruises and possibly a small cut, Sgt. Jared Crane said.

Officers were called at 3:16 a.m. to the 3400 block of 14th Avenue South for a disturbance in the parking lot outside the Days Inn.

Crane said it appeared there was a meeting set up in the parking lot between the victim and those who beat him up. Police were still trying to nail down the number of people involved, but Crane said it was “a couple vehicles full of guys.”

The victim told police he was hit with a baseball bat during the fistfight, but it didn’t appear that he was hit hard with bat, Crane said.

The victim had three or four friends who witnessed the assault, and one of them was punched during the incident, he said.

Police also were told someone was threatened with a handgun during the fight, but they were unable to confirm that, Crane said.

Police found one of the carloads in Fargo and the other was located in the Dilworth area. Most of those involved were questioned, but no arrests had been made as of 7 a.m., Crane said.

The incident remains under investigation.
