Fargo OKs permit for West Fargo elementary schoolFARGO – City commissioners here unanimously approved an early building permit for a new West Fargo School District elementary school on Monday night.
While the school, to be located at 3700 54th Street South, is a part of the West Fargo School District, the land is in Fargo’s Valley View Addition, which abuts Veteran’s Boulevard and 40th Avenue South.
An early building permit is issued when infrastructure, like water and sewer, is not yet available on the land where the building is to be constructed, said Fargo’s Planning Director Jim Gilmour. That land right now is just open field.
“They’re (West Fargo) kind of acknowledging that the conditions are what they are,” Gilmour said, adding that it’s “really unlikely” that infrastructure won’t be available by the planned school opening of fall 2014.
City commissioners on Monday cited optimism to working with the West Fargo district.
“I hope it’s a good partnership as we move to the future,” Commissioner Brad Wimmer said.
Commissioners also voted unanimously Monday to plat that addition, and they had a first reading of a rezoning ordinance, which would allow for the building of the school, as well as commercial and residential development. A second reading of the rezoning ordinance will occur in two weeks.
