Official’s call hinders Bison in loss to UMKC

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – An offensive foul call in the final seconds helped turn the tide against the North Dakota State women’s basketball team Thursday night in a 62-60 loss to Missouri-Kansas City.

With the score tied 60-60, NDSU’s Dani DeGagne thought she made the go-ahead bucket with 14 seconds left. But the basket was negated, as DeGagne was whistled for an offensive foul.

On the ensuing UMKC possession, Eilise O’Connor hit the winning jumper with 1.4 seconds left.

“I thought it was an and-one,” NDSU head coach Carolyn DeHoff said of the DeGagne foul.

O’Connor led the Kangaroos with 21 points and eight assists. UMKC shot 55.3 percent from the floor.

“The other players who surround (O’Connor) have started to improve,” DeHoff said.

Katie Birkel led the Bison with 21 points, six rebounds and five assists. DeGagne added 19 points and five rebounds.

“Very pleased with the effort of those two and across the board,” DeHoff said. “The kids are doing a great job executing game plans and putting us in the positions we’re in right now.”
