East Grand Forks lawyer in Norberg divorce suspended

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. - The East Grand Forks attorney involved in a high-profile Fargo divorce case was suspended last week from practicing law for 30 days in Minnesota, according to a disciplinary board.

The action will not affect Patti Jensen’s representation of Dr. Alonna Norberg in her divorce and custody dispute with Dr. Jon Norberg.

A Fargo jury acquitted him in November on felony charges. He was accused of drugging and sexually assaulting his wife, accusations he says she planned as leverage in divorcing him in civil court.

Jensen’s Minnesota suspension began Jan. 24, and is a reciprocal discipline by the Minnesota Lawyers Professional Responsibility Board, run by the state Supreme Court. It’s based on a similar suspension imposed by the North Dakota Supreme Court in September, not on any alleged violation in Minnesota, said board Director Martin Cole.

The North Dakota court suspended Jensen for failing to communicate with a client in a 2011 divorce case.

Jensen served her North Dakota suspension in November, with her office filling in as needed, including in the Norberg case, an associate said Wednesday.
