Weekend watch: ‘The Night the Music Died’

Tonight

When Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper all went down in an Iowa cornfield plane crash, Feb. 3, 1959, became known as “The Day the Music Died.”

The Shadows (Bobby Vee’s band that played the Moorhead date the three musicians died en route to) host a rock ’n’ roll revival tonight with “The Night the Music Died” at Festival Concert Hall, North Dakota State University.

The Shadows tribute band features Jeff Boxell as Buddy Holly, Wayne Luchau as Ray Orbison, Dick Dunkirk as Bobby Vee and Wayne Luchau as Gene Pitney, plus Symphony Strings and tributes to Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper.

The music starts at 7:30 p.m. with tickets for $23 in advance, $25 at the door. (701) 239-7969
