West Fargo police accuse Leonard man of copper theftsFARGO – A Leonard man faces felony theft and burglary charges in Cass County District Court after police say they caught him with large amounts of copper wire in his vehicle.
Court documents allege Gary Sheldon Steinhaus, 53, told West Fargo police he stole the wire after they responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle Sunday near 301 Center Street.
Documents filed with the charges Monday state police followed footprints from his car to storage containers by the nearby railroad tracks.

Police allege they discovered one of the storage containers held copper wire, and that while officers were searching it, Steinhaus drove by in the car.
Officers pulled him over and searched his car, which also had copper wire in it, police allege.
Steinhaus posted a $500 bond and is expected back in court Feb. 27.
