Letter: Second Amendment must be sacrosanct

I think civilian armories would be a legitimate idea for control of weapons that are designed to kill humans. Automatics, bazookas, cannons would all be legal to own but illegal to have in the home, where they’re accessible to anybody with mental problems. This would remove all access to weapons by mentally unstable people whether they are diagnosed or are temporarily unstable for whatever reasons.

This would also remove all current AK-47s, hand grenades, 100-round clips, etc. from the home and place them in an armory controlled by local mayors. Rifles, shotguns, pistols – weapons used for hunting and self-defense – could stay in the home.

The Second Amendment would still be honored, our people would be safer, and gun owners could own any type of weapon or ammo they want but would have to keep the ones designed solely to kill humans in an armory. Weapons must not leave the armory property unless the local mayor opens it up to the local population for defense against its government. The armory must have a firing range for all to use, practice and enjoy their weapons.

The slaughtering of 20 babies (5- and 6-year-olds) in Newtown, Conn., makes me sick, and I never want to hear my radio or TV report a similar event again. On the other hand, I won’t give up my autos or my Second Amendment rights.
