ND child support collections set record in 2012BISMARCK — North Dakota's Human Services Department says its Child Support Division collected a record $141 million last year.
The amount of court-ordered child support collected surpassed the 2011 total by more than 4 percent. The division says it also set an all-time monthly collections record in March 2012, at $14 million.
Division Director Jim Fleming says there are several reasons for last year's records, including support from businesses, a new online lien registry and the good work of child support staff.
Human Services recently removed the word "enforcement" from the name of the Child Support Division, saying the new name better reflects the mission of working with parents to ensure children's needs are met and families don't have to rely on public assistance. The program serves more than 65,000 children.
