News conference set after fifth WFHS deathWEST FARGO – School officials here will hold a news conference today to discuss how they’re helping students and staff get through the fifth death of a high schooler since early December.
The news conference at 11 a.m. will focus on the process the district is following to help those affected by the losses at West Fargo High School. Details of any of the five separate deaths will not be discussed.
The latest was 17-year-old Ryan McLeod, who died Monday from ongoing health issues. Earlier this month, 17-year-old junior Makenzie Walkin died. Her cause of death has not been released.
Three students died in early December, starting with sophomore Tessa Miller on Dec. 5 and followed by the Dec. 7 deaths of senior Levi Schulz and junior Ian Alves. Schulz died of injuries suffered when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing Sheyenne Street, and Alves died after an 18-month battle with two forms of cancer. The cause of Miller’s death was not released.
