Shanley forensics takes top honors at tourneyFARGO – The Shanley High School forensic team took top honors in the Class A school division at the annual Watertown (S.D.) Fiesta Speech and Debate Tournament.
Shanley finished first among Class A schools, and Shanley junior Sebastian Startz was one of three students to earn all-tournament honors. Startz placed first in international extemporaneous speaking and second, with teammate and brother, Thomas Startz, in the Division I public forum debate. Thomas Startz also finished third in international extemporaneous speaking.
Other Shanley team winners included: Chase Johnson, fifth, U.S. extemporaneous speaking; and Gabe Thomas, first, Division III Lincoln Douglas debate and Division III extemporaneous speaking.
Students from other Fargo-area schools placing in the competition included: Anjali Lall, Davies High School, third, U.S. extemporaneous speaking; Maneesh Apte, Davies, fourth, international extemporaneous speaking, and second, Division I Lincoln Douglas debate; and Carl Denton, North High School, semifinalist, Division III Lincoln Douglas debate.
