Tuesday Tips: Dish soap scraps fabric stains

Each Tuesday we offer up a quick tip on anything from money-saving tricks to household how-tos.

FARGO – Every winter when I wear my black down coat, I end up with a chalky film on the collar from my face makeup rubbing against the fabric.

Rather than wash the coat every time it happens, I found a simple blue life saver that everyone likely has under their kitchen sink – Dawn dish soap.

When gently rubbed onto the collar of my coat with a damp rag, the soap eliminates my makeup stain.

Be sure to rub a damp rag without soap over the area so soap doesn’t dry on the coat.

I’ve used Dawn to remedy grease stains on clothing using the same method.

If in doubt, take your garments to a professional cleaner to avoid damaging them.
