Babich, Tice let go by BearsCHICAGO – The Chicago Bears introduced Marc Trestman as their new head coach during a news conference Thursday morning. And the team wasted little time sorting through the coaches left over from Lovie Smith’s tenure.
Former North Dakota State head coach Bob Babich and former Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Tice were among seven assistant coaches informed Thursday night that they would not be retained by Trestman.
Babich had been with the Bears since 2004 after spending one season on the St. Louis Rams coaching staff. He was the team’s linebacker coach, and he previously held positions as defensive coordinator and assistant head coach.
Babich was head coach at NDSU from 1997-2002, posting a record of 46-22.
Tice was the offensive coordinator for the Bears last season after previously serving as the team’s offensive line coach.
He was head coach of the Vikings for the final game of the 2001 season through the 2005 season, going 32-33 in four-plus seasons.
Trestman is a former quarterback at Minnesota State Moorhead.
