Carpenter commits to North Dakota State for wrestling

MOORHEAD – Moorhead senior wrestler Joe Carpenter verbally committed to wrestle at North Dakota State on Wednesday night.

“For the most part I just wanted to have an engineering school and wanted to wrestle, so this was a good option,” Carpenter said. “They seemed like they really wanted me. I’ve wanted to wrestle at the college level since sixth grade, so it feels really good that I’m going to be wrestling Division I with NDSU.”

Carpenter is ranked fifth in the state in Class 3A at 160 pounds and is a two-time state qualifier, including a fifth-place finish last season at 152 pounds. Carpenter’s career record is 104-51.

Carpenter joins West Fargo’s Preston Lehmann and Fargo North’s Tommy Walton in NDSU’s 2013 recruiting class.

“I kind of wanted to go away, but it’s nicer to stay in town,” Carpenter said. “If I wanted to come home and get a cooked meal, I can just come across the river and eat food.”
