Letter: Critic of NDSU way too negativeIn response to Jeff Fox’s letter “Win at all costs …” (Jan. 9)
It is a sad day when someone tries to raise themselves up by pointing out the faults of others. I could not be more disappointed with this letter, as it only attempts to point out the mistakes of a select few and project them onto a bigger screen and shine a negative light onto what is otherwise an outstanding program. No program is immune from distractions.
The North Dakota State University Athletic Department is a model program that does an excellent job of representing and promoting our region as it travels throughout our country. The accomplishments of the football program have much greater and more far-reaching benefits than Fox is considering. These benefits are not all tied to profits and revenues either.
Consider what the Bison football program, the Alumni Association and many individuals from Bison Nation did for young Jordan Peterson. If you are not familiar with this story, please read the Jan. 3 article in The Forum, www.inforum.com/
event/article/id/385181. This is a wonderful story of the true character of our athletic department and the people of our institution. Stories like these make me proud to be part of Bison Nation.
If we were all judged by our mistakes alone, not one of us would stand apart. We all make them. The point is to learn from them, move on and do something great with your life. The accomplishments of the various NDSU programs far exceed the mistakes of a few. Focus on the positive.
