Trade Talk: Downtown Fargo eatery locked in battle of the pitas

Want to get free pitas all day long?

Then hop on Facebook and vote for one of two Fargo Pita Pit locations as the best Pita Pit in the country.

Pita Pit corporate recently launched a social media “Battle of the Pita Pits” asking fans to vote for their favorite Pita Pit location.

The store that gets the most votes will give out free pitas to the community for a full day, said Cameron Sandberg, shift lead at the downtown Fargo Pita Pit.

So far, the Fargo location at 206 Broadway has beat out more than 230 other shops to make it into the top 65.

Sandberg said voting can be done at www.facebook.com/pitapitrocks. The downtown shop also has barcodes thatcan be scanned in with a smartphone to make voting even easier.

Fargo is home to two Pita Pit shops. The second is at 4900 13th Ave. S.

Business startups up 18 percent in Minnesota

Minnesota Secretary of State numbers show 60,827 new businesses were filed in 2012, an 18 percent increase over 2011.

It is the second-highest number of new filings in state history.

“New business filings reflect Minnesota’s great business climate,” Secretary of State Mark Ritchie said in a statement. “As our economy continues to improve in 2013, new business filings will remain strong.”

Two Casey’s stores coming to F-M area

New Casey’s General Stores will soon be coming to Fargo and Moorhead.

Construction has not yet begun on the sites because of winter weather, but Bill Walljasper, CFO and senior vice president of Casey’s General Stores, expects work to get under way in the near future with the stores opening in the fall.

The Moorhead shop, located at 12th Avenue and 34th Street South, will mark the 112th store in Minnesota. The Fargo site planned for 44th Avenue and 45th Street South is the second Casey’s General Store to open in North Dakota.

Casey’s General Stores, headquartered in Ankeny, Iowa, was named “one to watch” this year by Convenience Store Decisions magazine after Casey’s announced plans to open 35 new units in 2013 and a major multiyear remodel program to its existing stores.

Digin Design & Build offering health expo

Staff at Fargo’s Digin Design & Build Idea Center, a showroom for people who are building or remodeling, were looking for ways to give back to the community, said Cassie Wiste of Digin Design and Build.

So, once a month the idea center hosts events that feature area small businesses and focus on arts or other community issues. The “Here’s To You – Health, Beauty, and Wellness Expo” is from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the business, 4631 40th Ave. S.

“Our showroom will be full of businesses that people may be interested in getting information about,” Wiste said.

Free chair massages, hydro facials and health analysis readings will also be offered.
