Style Profile: Blogger keeps look fun during pregnancy
The soon-to-be mom enjoys designer goods and thrift store steals all the same.
I spotted Underlee Nelson at JL Beers sipping water in a bold black and cobalt blue ensemble.
Describe your style.
It’s a little bit jet set – I like things that are comfortable – and it’s eclectic. I travel often with my husband, so my clothes have to work for me.
Stripes and skulls are kind of my thing. I wear a ton of patterns and black. I have a million black jackets.
What are you wearing today?
Leggings from Motherhood Maternity in the (West Acres) mall, scarf from Target, White House Black Market tunic, Silence + Noise jacket and Morgan handbag from Paris.
Has your style changed since you got pregnant?
No, not really. I make sure that I only wear things that I’d still wear if I weren’t pregnant.
What should every woman have in her closet?
A great bag, two pairs of jeans that fit really well (her favorites are Joe’s Jeans and Citizens of Humanity), in different washes and silhouettes, a classic one-button throw-it-over-everything blazer in a neutral color, and opaque black tights. I have some from Topshop that I’ve had forever.
You’ve traveled a lot. Did it influence your style?
Totally. When I first started traveling, I remember landing in Madrid and seeing these women in skinny jeans with straight hair and leather bracelets. I thought to myself “Hey, what’s this?”
What you wear is partially based on what’s available to you. You’ve got to broaden your horizons.
What are your favorite travel destinations for fashion?
Paris has style that I can wear. I love the classic lines, the high-quality clothes.
Tokyo is mind blowing. The stores are so interesting, and whether you have $3 or $300 to spend, there’s something there for you.
Do you have a go-to accessory?
Scarves. I like to mix patterns a lot, and throwing on a scarf is an easy way to do that.
Where do you like to shop?
Zara, Topshop, Urban Outfitters, O’Day Cache, Unglued and My Best Friend’s Closet.
I love thrifting and flea markets, but I also love Gucci. It can all work together.
What’s your best thrift store find?
I found a Gucci bag at a thrift store in Jamestown (N.D.) for $5.
