Minneapolis, Milwaukee mayors hold gun summitMINNEAPOLIS — A regional gun summit in Minneapolis will bring together mayors, police, prosecutors and policy makers from cities in Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Upper Midwest.
Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett are leading the daylong summit in Minneapolis Thursday. Experts will share information, best practices and challenges in fighting gun violence and illegal guns. The summit has been planned for a year.
The gathering comes as the Obama administration sits down with gun owners groups — including the National Rifle Association — to look at ways to curb gun violence.
Vice President Joe Biden is leading an administration-wide review of gun safety laws. The meeting with the NRA is one of three Biden has scheduled for Thursday, as he prepares to make recommendations on gun policy by the end of the month.
