I-35 rest stop closed after person found dead in car with warning noteDULUTH, Minn. - The Sturgeon Lake rest stop off Interstate 35 was closed for several hours Wednesday after a person was found dead in a vehicle around 4 p.m. with a note warning bystanders not to open the door.
Minnesota State Patrol Lt. Eric Roeske said the individual left a suicide note warning against opening the vehicle because it contained toxic gases. A hazardous material team was dispatched to the scene to assist.
Roeske said a trooper on the scene may have been exposed to the chemical mixture and was transported to a local hospital for surveillance at about 8:30 p.m.
Crews remained on the scene Wednesday night to ensure it was decontaminated before reopening the rest stop to the public.
Authorities did not release the person’s name Wednesday night pending notification of family.
