ND chief justice to address LegislatureBISMARCK — North Dakota Chief Justice Gerald VandeWalle is set to address lawmakers Wednesday at the state Capitol.
The 2013 session began Tuesday. By tradition, North Dakota's chief justice briefs the Legislature on judicial issues when lawmakers meet every two years.
In the 2011 session, VandeWalle appealed to state lawmakers to look into ways to help older residents avoid being abused or financially exploited.
VandeWalle has been a justice since 1978 and became chief justice in 1993.
The North Dakota Supreme Court says VandeWalle is the longest-serving chief justice in the state's history.
