Lind: Lovebirds in photo ID’d by Neighbors readers
Now, thanks to several people who responded, Jeff and Neighbors know they are William “Bill” Toussaint and Eunice Lundquist. They later became husband and wife.
Beverly Carter, Fargo, believes the photo was taken during homecoming, and Eunice was homecoming queen. They were married during their senior year at the AC, now North Dakota State University. Both were named “outstanding seniors.”
They graduated in 1950.
Both graduated from Fargo Central High School: Bill in 1945, Eunice in 1946.
Beverly believes Bill became associated with the University of North Carolina and died in that area a few years ago. Eunice still lives there.
Beverly was Eunice’s classmate at Fargo Central and also graduated from the AC in 1950.
“Back in the ’40s,” Beverly writes, “the girls had potlucks and Eunice and I were in the same one. So we were good friends.”
The couple’s identifications are backed up by Dick Kloubec, Fargo, Bev Ames Shy, formerly of Fargo and now of Belle Fourche, S.D., and Mesa, Ariz., and Marjorie Opperman, Fargo, a 1949 AC graduate who was a Gamma Phi Beta sorority sister of Eunice.
Jim Gompf, Fargo, president of the Fargo Central High Alumni Association, says Eunice lived a block away from him for several years; her parents owned Community Grocery on Seventh Avenue North, just off 15th Street, Fargo.
Lori Gartzke, data coordinator for the NDSU Alumni Association, went through old yearbooks and found Bill and Eunice’s names. She also found that the football players wore those jerseys with stripes on the shoulder for just two years: 1950 and 1951.
Once again, thanks to Neighbors’ readers for answering another question.
