Letter: Still time to help Salvation ArmyThe 2012 holiday season is almost a “wrap.” Most of us find ourselves storing treasured decorations in boxes and fond memories in “banks.” We anticipate a return to normal routines. Increasing numbers of our communities’ population, however, have no holiday decorations or fond memories to store. Their normal routines include worrying about sufficient food and safe shelter.
The Salvation Army has and will continue to care about and assist individuals and families in providing for their most basic needs. Thanks to the leadership of Captains Bill and Ann Mealy and to creative, committed volunteers like Realtors DeAnne and Mark Mason and their real estate colleagues who, along with local firefighters and law enforcement personnel, participated in the successful kettle competition, our community has contributed generously to the Red Kettle Campaign.
The 2012 campaign has currently raised almost $800,000. There is still time to reach the $825,000 goal. A contribution to the Salvation Army (304 N. Roberts St., Fargo, ND 58102) is the dues we pay to be a part of a caring, responsive community. If you have not yet paid your dues, it’s not too late. Just “dues” it.
