Upper Lightning Lake topic of public meetingFERGUS FALLS, Minn. – A public hearing about the proposed wildlife lake designation of Upper Lightning Lake in Otter Tail County is set for 7 p.m. Jan. 17 here at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources area wildlife office.
The DNR is proposing a temporary partial drawdown of the 720-acre shallow-basin lake to improve waterfowl habitat and water quality.
Since the mid-1980s, high water levels have resulted in increasing numbers of undesirable fish, poor water quality, reduced abundance of emergent and submerged vegetation and shoreline erosion.
Those unable to attend the meeting can provide comments to Don Schultz, area wildlife supervisor, at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (218) 739-7576, ext. 228. All comments must be received by 4:30 p.m. Feb. 17.
