MOORHEAD – Cody Dorow sank a jumper that gave the Moorhead Spuds a two-point lead midway through the first half.

A little more than two minutes later, the Spuds were down double digits.

That stretch illustrated how explosive Roseville was Saturday night. The Raiders sank 10 3-pointers and had two players score at least 30 points to fuel a 113-93 boys basketball victory against the Spuds for the Moorhead Holiday Tournament title.

“We have a lot of guys who can play,” said Roseville head coach Ted Critchley, who is from Hawley, Minn. “It keeps us fresh. We like to play fast, which is kind of a different pace. We’re a deep team and we’re a fast team and we share the ball pretty well.”

Roseville (8-0) is ranked No. 3 in Minnesota Class 4A and has won all its games this season by double digits.

“They hit a lot of shots tonight and a lot of 3-point shots that are sometimes hard to defend for us,” said Spuds senior Aaron Lien, who scored a team-high 28 points. “They just proved to everyone why they are the third-ranked team in the state.”

Roseville senior guard Mack Johnson scored a game-high 31 points, including 17 in the second half. Sophomore guard Kobe Critchley, Ted’s son, finished with 30 points, including four 3-pointers.

Kobe Critchley had 18 points in Roseville’s 65-point second half.

“They are very, very athletic and they like to get up and go,” Lien said.

Moorhead took an 18-16 lead after Dorow hit a 17-foot shot from the top of the key with 10 minutes, 41 seconds remaining in the first half. The Raiders countered with next 12 points and never trailed after that stretch.

Kobe Critchley capped that rally with a driving basket that gave Roseville a 28-18 lead with 8:25 to play until halftime.

The Raiders added a 13-0 run early in the second half push their lead into the 20s. Kobe Critchley capped that spree with a 3-pointer from the left wing. That shot gave Roseville a 65-40 lead with 14:10 remaining.

“I thought we did a good job offensively,” Ted Critchley said.

Lien scored 16 of his points after halftime in attempt to keep the Spuds close. Moorhead senior guard Zack Dobbins added 22 points.
