Winona snowfall in December tops last winter's totalWINONA, Minn. — With the latest snowstorm this week, Winona has already received more snow this month than it did in all of last winter.
A Winona Daily News report says the area got about 4 inches of snow Friday. That brings the December total to about 16 inches, compared to 5.2 inches in December of last year.
That doesn't necessarily mean this is shaping up to be an especially nasty winter. National Weather Service meteorologist Todd Rieck says the numbers mainly indicate how light the snowfall was last year.
There's no more snowfall in the forecast this week. But the weather service says things will get chilly in the area as temperatures drop to 0 degrees or below overnight. Daytime highs are expected to top out in the teens.
