Style Profile: Michel prefers classic, eclectic items in wardrobe

FARGO – Aarika Michel’s style is edgy, cool and effortless – the perfect style to end 2012.

Michel is a visual merchandise manager for Topshop and Topman in Chicago. She formerly worked in New York City.

I spotted Michel at Starbucks grabbing coffee after a hair appointment. The North Dakota State University graduate was back in town for her brother’s graduation.

Describe your style.

Classic, yet eclectic. I like to be classic, but I also like to build up my accessories.

What are you wearing?

Topshop wedges, Zara trousers and cardigan, and H&M shirt.

Do any celebrities ever come into Topshop?

In New York, celebrities stopped in all the time. In Chicago, we get some, too.

They work with personal shoppers and come in during evening hours usually. We keep it professional and respect their privacy.

Celebrities who have shopped at the Topshop locations Michel works at include Rihanna, Beyoncé, Demi Lovato, Justin Timberlake, Cameron Diaz, Justin Bieber, R. Kelly and Nicki Minaj.

Who are your favorite designers?

Michael Kors because it’s classic, Dsquared for edginess, and Alexander Wang for his sporty pieces.

Where do you shop?

I shop everywhere, like Topshop, Zara and J. Crew. I like how Jenna Lyons has taken basic pieces and layered them.

What are your favorite accessories?

My Michael Kors watch, bangles and big hoops. I like a little bling.

What are your staple wardrobe pieces?

I have a military jacket I bought in Queens at a pay-by-the-pound store. I had it tailored, and I love it.

I wear cardis all day, every day. I like my motorcycle boots, too.

What’s your dream job?

I’d like to be a celebrity stylist or stylist for broadcast, movies or publications. It takes hussle and dedication.

Is there something you’ve been dying to have and finally got?

I got a Louis Vuitton Speedy 35 bag for Christmas!
