NDSU women overcome halftime deficit to defeat Milwaukee

FARGO – The North Dakota State women’s basketball team snapped a five-game losing streak with a 60-48 college basketball victory over Milwaukee on Sunday at the Bison Sports Arena.

The Bison trailed by 11 at halftime before outscoring the Panthers 34-14 in the second half.

“We talked to the girls about shooting to score and not just shooting,” NDSU head coach Carolyn DeHoff said. “They made that mental adjustment in the second half. We have been adjusting some things offensively and it showed in the second half.”

Dani DeGagne scored a team-high 16 points for the Bison.

“She moved well without the ball,” DeHoff said of DeGagne. “She had some great looks and we thought she was one of our better matchups offensively.”

Jamie Van Kirk and Katie Birkel each reached double-figures for NDSU with 15 and 14 points, respectively.

Marena Whittle had a game-high 11 rebounds for the Bison.

DeHoff said it was good for the team’s mental state to get a win and stop the losing streak before the short holiday break.
