Lind: North Dakota man didn’t win presidency this year

Well, folks, Larry Aasen didn’t win the election. Barack Obama edged by him.

This is Lawrence “Larry” Aasen we’re talking about. He lives in Westport, Conn., but he’s a native of Hillsboro, N.D.

He’s the young guy to the right in the above photo; the other man is his uncle, Alfred Brenden. The picture was taken on a farm near Hillsboro in 1940.

This photo was on an invitation sent this summer to Larry’s family and friends around the country.

The invitation reads, “Please join us (in Westport) to celebrate the 90th birthday of a great man on October the 6th, for Norwegian vittles and legends about Larry.”

Larry, the invitation continues, is a “man of the people; born in a log cabin in North Dakota in 1922.”

And, the invitation says, Larry is “not yet president, but still could be.”

No, Larry didn’t win the White House this year. But maybe in 2016 ...
