Weather Talk: Yuma, Ariz., sunniest city; Cold Bay, Alaska, cloudiest

Does our cloudy winter weather have you wishing for more sunshine?

Weather records indicate that Yuma, Ariz., is the sunniest city in the United States, with about 90 percent of possible annual sunshine. Redding, in interior Northern California, is second with 88 percent. Phoenix, Tucson, and Las Vegas are tied with 85 percent. El Paso gets 84 percent. Fresno, Calif., and Reno, Nev., continue the southwestern concentration with 79 percent.

Flagstaff, Ariz., and Sacramento, Calif., are tied at 78 percent. At 76 percent, Pueblo, Colo., and Albuquerque, N.M., along with Key West, Fla., the single non-Southwest city, round out the top 10 sunniest cities in the United States.

The cloudiest city in the United States is Cold Bay, Alaska, with an average of just 11 sunny days per year.
