Fargo Davies volleyball coach resignsFARGO – A month after guiding the Fargo Davies volleyball team to its first-ever North Dakota Class A state volleyball tournament appearance, Heather Stuberg is stepping down as the team’s head coach.
Stuberg resigned on Wednesday. Fargo Davies activities director/assistant principal Lenny Ohlhauser said the position will be open to applicants starting Jan. 1.
Davies finished the 2012 season with a 26-13 record and a 13-5 mark in the Eastern Dakota Conference.
It earned the fourth seed at the state tournament, winning a state-qualifying match over Fargo North during the East Region tournament in November. The Eagles went 1-2 at state, defeating Bismarck 3-1 in the seventh-place match.
“It was a completely a personal decision,” Stuberg said of her resignation. “As far as the head coaching job goes, it was just time for me to take a step back, reprioritize, and put things back into perspective.”
Stuberg was the only head coach in the school’s three years as a program. She had a 67-45 career record at Davies.
“The time that I spent as the head coach was a lot of fun,” Stuberg said. “Hopefully I was able to lay down a foundation that whoever comes in and takes over can build off of.”
Stuberg will continue to teach mathematics at Davies and serve as the school’s junior varsity basketball coach.
“The strength of hers was her organizational skills,” Ohlhauser said. “It takes a lot to start a program. There is more to it than just putting people on the floor when you are starting with a young team like that. … She did a nice job of pulling that all together. It was good to see her come out on top as far as making it to the state tournament this year.”
