Letter: Anti-smoking crowd has gone way too far

Good for Tony Reinfeld (The Forum, Dec. 10) in which he requests permission to smoke “somewhere.” I’m a nonsmoker (more than 10 years, thank God) but I still support a smoker’s rights.

Recently I told a young friend that I voted against the recent anti-smoking measure. Even though 99 percent positive the measure would pass, I wanted to support smokers’ rights. The expression that appeared on my friend’s face was definitely one of anger. That surprised me, but to each his own.

I don’t mind that nonsmokers want these bans, but I agree with Reinfeld: Twenty feet from a building is going too far. And the really scary part: There are people out there who will call the police if they see a smoker breaking that law.
