Letter: Bison football fans can do better

I have attended both of the North Dakota State University Bison’s football playoff games the past two Saturdays. What a great time. I am so proud of the effort the entire Bison team has given in their first two playoff games this year against great FCS competition.

While the Bison crowd has done “OK” to create a loud and noisy atmosphere for the opposing team while the Bison are on defense, I think we as Bison fans can do even better. Come on, Bison fans! Why wait until third down to stand up and be heard? Yes, there are some great fans who have created great noise on first and second down, etc., but a large majority of fans wait until third down to help their team.

Fans must realize these are precious opportunities for the NDSU Bison football team and for our community. No guarantee we will be back year after year. So my plea to my fellow Bison fans: We can do better – get up and be heard. Be heard early, often and on all defensive downs – first, second, third, fourth, punt attempts and field-goal attempts by the opposing team. Do not wait until third down.

If you do not plan on being an active participant and attendee – noisy, loud and disruptive for our Georgia Southern opponents this Friday – please give your tickets to someone who will. Let’s go, fans, we can do better. This Friday, let’s support our team at levels never “herd” before.
