North Dakota Guardsmens' remains returning today, Monday

GRAND FORKS - The body of the North Dakota National Guard member from Devils Lake who died in Afghanistan is scheduled to arrive at 11:06 this morning in his hometown of Sidney, Mont., according to the guards.

Sgt. 1st Class Darren M. Linde, 41, and Spc. Tyler Orgaard, 20, Bismarck, were both killed by a roadside bomb as they were clearing a road of explosives.

The body of Orgaard is scheduled to arrive in Bismarck at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Maj. Gen. David Sprynczynatyk, North Dakota adjutant general, and senior guards leaders will be traveling to Sidney to meet Linde’s plane, the guards said.

Linde and Orgaard were members of the 818th Engineer Company, based in Williston, N.D.

Spc. Ian C. Placek, 23, Bismarck, a member of the unit injured in the same attack, is in stable condition in Germany, the guards reported. He will be transferred to Ft. Riley, Kan., for further treatment.

Linde’s funeral services will be conducted by Fulkerson Funeral Home in Sidney. Orgaard’s services will be conducted by Eastgate Funeral Service in Bismarck. The guards said that other arrangements for the services are pending.
