Letter: Vote a big step to improve health

Thanks to the voters of Cass County for choosing health. The Cass County community has taken a huge step toward improving the health of its people by encouraging passage of Measure 4, which protects everyone from secondhand smoke.

Vast scientific evidence shows that secondhand smoke is a direct cause of diseases such as lung cancer, heart disease, and lung and bronchial infections. Some of the health benefits we can expect from a smoke-free ordinance include:

I encourage the 70 percent of Cass County residents who voted “yes” on the smoke-free ordinance to share their support with local media and organizations. Let’s not look for “loopholes” but share news of success for the health of our county and state.
