Weekend watch: Photography, art shows on Broadway

Tonight and Friday

Holiday events are marking up the calendar, but you can admire some different marks altogether as a trio of new shows open in downtown Fargo this weekend.

Former Forum photographers Ann Arbor Miller and Britta Trygstad size up each other’s work in “Commons: A Curious Pairing of Photographs” at the Spirit Room, 111 Broadway, through Jan. 11. The artists talk about the exhibit, in which photos by each are positioned by each other based on unintended themes or coincidental compositions, during to-night’s reception from 6:30 to 8:30. (701) 237-0230.

A block south and west, DK Custom Framing at Gallery 14, 14 Roberts St., opens “Art Heist: Paintings by Johnathan Miller.” The Grand Forks painter talks about his layered works at tonight’s reception, starting at 6.

Friday night Jessica Wachter unveils her latest textured paintings, “Lost in Translation,” at ecce art gallery, 216 Broadway, from 6 to 10. (701) 298-3223.
