Letter: Tougher standard good for students

As a high school senior, I could not help notice the number of my peers who are unsure of their future and are planning to attend some of the state’s most expensive institutions.

The stricter standards for college admission in our state comes as a relief to me, as they should to many other students. By raising the bar on admissions, students are pushed to maintain their grades to a higher standard and branch out taking other classes they may have never before considered. This push is necessary to motivate many of my fellow classmates who suffer from plain apathy and look at the future as simple and easy.

The higher standards are going to save many students expensive, wasted years at colleges they may find themselves being less than satisfied with after switching around majors. Stricter standards for North Dakota students will make us all think more proactively and practically for college planning. For these reasons, I support tougher effort required to get into North Dakota colleges.
